Manish Kulhary belongs to the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) – Customs & Indirect Taxes and joined service in the year 2008. He is presently working as Consul (Trade) at the Consulate General of India, New York, and representing Indian Customs as the Customs Attache for the region of North & South/Latin Americas and the Caribbean. His previous assignments have included a stint in the Customs Administration and Law Enforcement, where he was involved in work related to taxation, audit, drug law enforcement, and general administration. He served for more than seven years in the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), which is the premier agency for customs intelligence and investigation in India. He is also an expert in WCO’s Operation Tentacle which is anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing capacity building and operational program. In his present role, he acts as an Indian Customs representative for the Americas and Caribbean region where he coordinates with the Customs administrations of various countries and regional authorities for the mutual assistance in Customs, drug law enforcement, money laundering, and other related matters. He is also the in charge of Trade & Commerce Section in the Consulate of India in New York and is responsible for furthering Indian trade and commerce with the US and encouraging investments into India. Before joining the Government, Mr. Kulhary worked with a shipping company in Mumbai. He is a member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and possesses a degree in Law from Delhi University. He is based out of New York, where he lives with his wife, son, and daughter.
